Look for the Signs
Each business at Pinecrest will display one of the following signs at their location. Look for these signs to see if a business chooses to participate in DORA or allows DORA beverages inside their shop. As you leave DORA boundaries, you will see “NO ALCOHOL PERMITTED PAST THIS POINT” signs. Please use those trash cans to throw away your DORA cup.
DORA Pinecrest FAQs
What is DORA?
“DORA” stands for “Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.” Effective since 2015, Ohio law legalized the creation of DORAs in qualifying municipalities and townships (Ohio Revised Code 4301.82 2022). “The DORA essentially draws a mapped-out district, typically within a downtown or mixed-use area, in which patrons 21 and over purchase alcoholic beverages from approved restaurants and carry their drinks outside and within the DORA boundaries” (Wiles 2021). Any person of legal age in a DORA carrying an open container of beer, wine, or liquor is generally exempt from prosecution under the “Open Container Law” (Ohio Revised Code 4301.62 2016) if the drink was purchased from a participating DORA vendor.
Can I carry DORA alcoholic beverage around Pinecrest?
Yes! Those that are 21 years of age and older can now purchase an alcoholic beverage to go from participating restaurant partners and stroll throughout the designated common areas and participating stores. Beverages must be in an official DORA disposable cup provided by the restaurant where you purchased the drink.
Where can I Sip & Stroll?
You can now walk with your DORA beer/wine/cocktail in Central Park, other pedestrian walkways throughout Pinecrest, and at participating retailers. No alcohol is permitted in any parking areas or the parking garage.
Can I bring my own alcohol to Pinecrest?
No! Only alcoholic beverages purchased from participating DORA partners may be taken outside the restaurant and into the neighborhood. No outside alcohol is permitted.
Can I take my DORA beverage into a retail store while shopping?
In most cases, yes! However, a few stores prohibit alcoholic beverages inside. A full list of participating restaurants to purchase DORA beverages and retail stores to sip and shop is on the Pinecrest website, discoverpinecrest.com, and look out for the green and red stickers on the doors to see if the shop you’re entering allows DORA beverages inside. Continue to check the website as we add participating DORA beverage sellers and retail Sip & Stroll locations.
Can I take the DORA drink that I purchased from a participating restaurant into another restaurant?
No. You are welcome to Sip & Stroll at public common areas at Pinecrest, but you cannot take that same cup back into the restaurant where it was purchased to re-use or into any other restaurants. If you order a second beverage, the restaurant will provide you with a new cup.
